What we're about
The Sacramento-Sierra Nevada Standup Paddleboard Club was established for those who love to be active and love the water.
Standup paddle surfing is derived from its Polynesian roots. The Hawaiian translation is Ku Hoe He'e Nalu; to stand, to paddle, to surf, a wave.
In standup paddleboarding (SUP), one can paddle on the open ocean, in harbors, on lakes, rivers or any large body of water. In the Sacramento and Sierra areas we are fortunate to have access to all of these water bodies.
This group will meet for a variety of paddles: recreation, race training, equipment demo, racing, and trips.
Standard paddling locations are Lake Natoma and Folsom Lake in the Folsom and Granite Bay area, the American River in Sacramento, and Lake Tahoe. Special trips are set up throughout the region including the Bay, Santa Cruz, and Sierra foothills.
During the peak summer season the club tries to meet weekly in the evening and 1-2 times a month on weekends. Each year the club meets in Tahoe for a SUP party. In the winter the club meets as weather permits.
The club is for all levels of paddlers from first-time to elite racers. Everyone in the group is fun, adventurous and friendly. Several club members are active in the SUP racing community and attend regional events together. The club is a great way to make new friends with similar interests and to improve your paddling!
The club is sponsored by the local SUP business - Sierra Standup Paddleboard. On set meetup events they volunteer and provide instruction to new paddlers and provide food and drinks for picnics. Throughout the year they teach classes to give new paddlers a strong foundation in technique and safety and rent gear to those wanting to attend club events but haven't yet purchased their own gear.
