Dan Barker: Should Religion and Government Be Separate?

A former evangelical pastor and now the co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Dan Barker is an atheist and advocate of freethought and will be talking about the separation of church and state on April 20 at CSU Sacramento.

Welcoming a New Chapter of the FFRF

This event marks the inauguration of The Greater Sacramento Chapter of the Freedom from Religion Foundation, a new addition to an organization that works as an umbrella for those who are free from religion and are committed to the cherished principle of separation of state and church.

About the Event Host

The Secular Student Alliance (SSA) at Sac State is co-hosting this event. They are an affiliate of the national Secular Student Alliance, an organization that aids high school and college student groups in the atheist, agnostic, humanist, skeptic, and freethought movement.

Ticketing

This event is a fundraiser for the SSA at Sac State, to enable them to attend the national SSA conference in June. Your donations are welcome, and will help advance the group as they learn about leadership, marketing, community outreach, and more.

Tickets are $12 at the door, and FREE with current student ID (subject to availability). RSVPing to this SacFAN announcement tells your SacFAN friends you will be there, but is not a ticket to the event. You must buy a ticket to guarantee a seat, either at the door if seats are available, or at the link below.

EDIT: Many people have had problems with the Sac State Ticket Office website.  If you would like to purchase tickets directly from the club, email Dan at [masked].

Parking and Venue

Parking is FREE in Lot 2. Signs will be clearly posted before the event.

The event is held at Mendocino Hall, Room 1005, adjacent to Lot 2.

We suggest arriving early.

Great talk! I'm impressed with how many cases FFRF is handling simultaneously. Dan IS the man! Awesome pianist as well.

Dan is the Man. He always inspires me! Thanks and contrats to Sac-FFRF and the ASO of CSUS for making this talk possible. I feel like Sacramento freethought is finally breaking out of its ghetto.

Dan just read this over my shoulder. I asked if he had a response. He said, "It's time for bed." Poor guy has been going for days on end.... :-) Thanks for the nice words, Ken.

Something had come up and we won't be able to make it out there. Everyone enjoy!

We need some folding tables at the Sac State event. They're for items being sold at the event. Sac State has no tables to lend us. Please reply if you can bring one or two. Thanks, Judy.

    I look forward to it.

I just started to buy a ticket, and their system wants all kinds of info to set up an account...I'm not willing to go through the rigamarole. Will definitely be there, but will have to get a ticket at the door.

      Will do - thanks!

Just bought tickets online. Took 3 minutes. The system works well.

That is exactly why I am reaching out to so many different religions and cultural groups for this event. It may seem obvious to some, but I really want the conversation to go places it hasn't before.

I'm going to buy a ticket. Hey, maybe they should let those with church bulletins in for free :)

How about charging double? Bringing a copy of FFRF's Freethought Today should get you in for free :)

:-))) Freethinkers also seem to be clever thinkers. Do you find we have a unique sense of humor that not everyone gets?

Got mine. Was super easy! See everyone there

I've been asked if RSVPing to this SacFAN announcement gets you a seat. Please be sure you buy a ticket online, or expect to buy one at the door if seats are still available. RSVPing to SacFAN simply lets your friends know you will be trying to buy a ticket. (I've updated the announcement to reflect that.) Glad so many are interested! See you there.

    Where can I get tickets?

    February 23, 2013

    • Nick A.

Where is the link to buy tickets? I can't find it on the website. Thanks

      March 11, 2013

    • David D.

It should (hopefully) go up today, and we'll update the link to go directly to the ticketing page.

Bummer, that's Picnic Day at UC Davis, so now I can't make this. :-(
