Service of Remembrance

***This is a great opportunity for the freethinker/atheist/humanist community to join with others in Sacramento on behalf of our shared values of peace, compassion, and diversity.***

Sacramento PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will host its 11th Annual Service of Remembrance at First United Methodist Church beginning at 4PM.

The event is chaired by SacFAN member Jerry Sloan, a longtime LGBT activist whose court victory against Jerry Falwell 25 years ago provided seed funds for the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center.

This multi-denominational service is in memory of those who have died violently because of their sexual orientation and gender identity.

In recent years, the greater Sacramento area saw two murders of members of the LGBT community: Satender Singh and Ruby Molina. Background links on those two cases below, including a report from the Southern Poverty Law Center that opens with a narrative of the murder of Singh at Lake Natoma.

Here is the event page on Sacramento PFLAG's website (including downloadable flyers).

The Annual Day of Remembrance is a nice tradition. Unfortumately it is much too religious in nature. As the Honorary Chair I was pleased with the support of several FANS members. Thanks for being there and supporting Sacramento's GLBT community.
