Ancient Christian Study Group

The history of ancient Christianity is an endlessly fascinating topic. Don Fox and Steve Thoreson are facilitating this meet up to review the history of Rome, religions of the Roman empire, Gnosticism, Mystery cults, history of Christian persecutions, biographies of major Christians, the history of the Bible and many other related topics. If you ever wanted to sort out Eusebius from Clement, or Constantine from Diocletian, or the Vulgate from the Septuagint, then this group is for you.

Previous biblical knowledge is not required to participate.

We will be meeting every three weeks.  Each meeting a specific topic will be covered.  Check the comment section to find out what the current readings and topics of discussion are.

I thought the group might be interested in a talk happening in Berkeley in a few months. CANDIDA MOSS / THE MYTH OF PERSECUTION: How Early Christians Invented a Story of Martyrdom

This is so interesting, but I have a commitment that I had forgotten. Thanks, and if you continue the discussion, I would very much like to participate.

We'll be talking about Bart Ehrman's "Jesus, Interrupted". It's his introduction to 300 years of biblical scholarship. It's also cheap, short and widely available.
