Ancient Christian Study Group

The history of ancient Christianity is an endlessly fascinating topic. Don Fox and Steve Thoreson are facilitating this meet up to review the history of Rome, religions of the Roman empire, Gnosticism, Mystery cults, history of Christian persecutions, biographies of major Christians, the history of the Bible and many other related topics. If you ever wanted to sort out Eusebius from Clement, or Constantine from Diocletian, or the Vulgate from the Septuagint, then this group is for you.

Previous biblical knowledge is not required to participate.

We will be meeting every third Sunday.  Each meeting a specific topic will be covered.  Check the comment section to find out what the current readings and topics of discussion are.

This Meetup looks awesome. I have an undergrad background in ancient history and grad school studies in Classics (poetry and propaganda in the age of Augusts). I left the faith about three years ago and have had a renewal of interest in this period as well as ANE studies. Though I live down in Modesto I'll try to make it (my wife needs a monthly visit to the Sac Co-op anyway). Cheers!

We like to think we're the place to be if you're curious about the period and need colleagues to talk to.

This meetup still looks awesome and Shine looks like a major find. But alas, won't be able to make the trip to Sacto today. I look forward to making it in the future. Have a great meeting!

This month's topic is "The Top 5 People in the Success of Christianity". Attendees are encouraged to compile their own lists and be prepared to explain why they think X is more important than Y or Z. Will Jesus make the cut?
