Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) is an animal liberation network working to end speciesism. Beginning in 2013 in the Bay Area, California with only a few activists and ambitious ideas, the network has grown exponentially through a tireless focus on local and international community building, open and consensus-based organizing, and the high-impact campaign, “It’s Not Food, It’s Violence,” which has now reached 41 cities across 13 countries and has received national news coverage. DxE highlights voices and communities that have been traditionally marginalized in the animal rights movement. This intersectional and international approach has mobilized activists in cities as far-flung and disparate as Chennai, India; Antalya, Turkey; Phoenix, Arizona; and Vancouver, Canada.
Organizers from the East Bay Area, CA chapter of Direct Action Everywhere will speak about the origins of the network, its organizing principles and its current campaigns. This will also be a place for discussion, where we will trade ideas and hear about the struggles and campaigns that your community is involved with. The second day of the tour will be a day of action, where we will collectively plan and implement actions at different locations across the city. The purpose of the tour is to strengthen the network and relationships with activist communities through face-to-face interaction.
Until every animal is free.
