What: American Canyon Creek Trail

Where to meet you: (in your RSVP, please post at which departure site we will find you):

Depart: 9 am at PnR
Departure Trailhead: 10am at the trailhead (see directions below)

Elevation: All Downhill - loss of 900 feet

Distance: 7 Miles

Rating: Beginner -Intermediate "Rating Chart" (

Duration: about 5.5 hours for the hike

Things to bring: Willingness to hike together as a group no matter what the speed of the slowest hiker. Willingness to stay between the sweeper and the leader.

Plus: 2 liters of Water, Appropriate footwear for safe travel on the surfaces of the hike. Rain gear.

Plus: Layers of clothing, cold mornings out there! Light lunch

Membership Required: All adult participants must be Sacramento Trail Mix members. Minors are welcome when accompanied by their parent or guardian club member.

Description: This gentle descent into American Canyon takes hikers across two pleasant streams and several secluded waterfalls.

Hikers start out under a canopy of foothill pine and Douglas fir.

We will take the trail to the Ameican Canyon Creek Trail then down to the Middle Fork of the American river where we will catch the Quarry trail to the confluence.

Cool Features: Water Falls, Canyons, rivers, views, and of course YOU!

Dogs: Dogs on lease only(Park Rules). Common courtesy is for hikers with dogs to walk in the back, so others aren't tangled in leases. We love dogs, and want everyone to "love" them too, by having positive interaction with them! Thank you!


Directions to Trailhead: Trailhead is on Pilgrim Way east of Cool. Take Hwy 49 south to Cool. Turn left on Hwy 193 at blinking red light and drive six miles. Turn left on Pilgrim Way and look for trailhead on right side just below the gated entrance to Auburn Lakes Trails development. Curbside parking is available along Pilgrim Way on both sides of trailhead.
