Mary C. gave some accounts that helped keep in mind - some of the reasons f the influence of the Rep in small-town America. I have myself lived for a few days in 2 very small towns--and it was a "cultural shock." Shane gave a very detailed account of the possible outcomes of the election. He seemed very well informed. I rather illiterate about the election process. May be someone could illuminate me and direct me the right site where to get informed. These are the main information pieces that helped me here.

We all have own opinions and experiences , so there's no right or wrong answers. So the solution to the problems are not always solvable.

I am struck by the difference in the ability of participants to sustain threads in online discussion versus the great difficulty of maintaining any sort of continuity during a meeting in person. In person, there is a tendency for participants to say things that are not directly related to the person who spoke previously, whereas in online conversation, direct responses to someone are much easier because the response may occur at a later time, after considerable thought. "Free" or "open" discussion is actually less free than discussion conducted under clear rules that limit what can be said because unfocused group conversation is not really conversation at all. This poses an interesting paradox: when is freedom expanded by constraint? To put it another way, how is it that we add to freedom by taking some of it away, and why should it be the case that that is true?

01/26/14. It was great to have guest speaker and have an extended discussion afterwards. Love it so far. Great input. Polite and civil. Good mix of personalities. (= those were my comments from my first meet up, Aug 3, 2013) December 14, 2013: I continue to thoroughly enjoy the meets ups and I try not to miss them. Its been a great educational experience, as well as a positive social experience. I attend almost every Saturday.

Love it!!! I 've grown a lot in a way that I would've never achieved just sitting in my room all day reading intellectual books and only thinking inside my own mind.

I am delighted to have found this group! I am a divergent thinker, and it's so nice to have a discussion with people who don't respond to my comments with blank stares. I really enjoy the intellectual stimulation that this group provides.

great. and for obsessive compulsive individuals like me, here is the link to the article I mentioned about gun control, and those great advocates of the 2nd amendment - The Black Panthers http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2011/09/the-secret-history-of-guns/308608/

I was pleasantly surprised to see the various point of views and dialog. Did anyone else notice that the 3 generations ideas appeared to be similar, with the exception of a few people? I am looking forward to next Saturday's discussion! Thank you Brandon for organizing this stimulating group!
