Lyons Lake Hike

  • Jul 13, 2013 · 7:30 AM

Day Hike (3B).  Lyons Creek Trail (Sacramento Group)

This is a high alpine trail along several meadows with good late season wildflowers, 3 sets of creek pools, and 2 alpine lakes which can be suitable for swimming.  Depending on local conditions, we will hike to either Lyons Lake or Lake Sylvia.  Hikers must be in good to excellent condition.  10+ miles round trip and a breathtaking 1,700' elevation gain as we near the lake.  Elevation 8,380' at Lyons Lake.  Bring the 10 essentials, including 3 quarts water, sturdy boots, snacks, lunch, as well as, layered clothing due to changeable weather conditions, and $$ for carpool drivers and optional dinner in Placerville.  Hike limited to 12.  Call for details and reservation by July 11.  Leader: Stan Jones[masked] or [masked].

A great hiking group - thanks all! Lyons is a lovely lake, one of my favorites. We didn't see Marty the Marmot this time.

Hi Stan! We saw you on the trail yesterday. We were the group of 8 behind you on the climb to Lyons. It was a great hike!

Since I live in Tahoe and cannot meet you in Sacramento at 7:30am, I will do this on my own this week. Have to work Saturday evening anyway, and I still haven't received a time to meet you at the trailhead. Enjoy!

Unexpected guests in town tomorrow....is there a reason no location is listed...not even the trailhead location???

Is that because the hikers do not like dogs or your policy?

Pretty much sierra club policy unless 'dogs welcome' is listed in advance on the write-up.

I would also like to carpool. The Iron Point light rail station in Folsom is a good meeting place.

Please let me know if anyone will be smoking... If so, I won't be able to go. (Secondhand smoke renders me incapable of breathing, let alone hiking...) :) Thanks!
