Day Hike (2B) Twin and Island Lakes

  • No location was chosen

Due to Wilderness Permit restrictions our group size is limited to 12. To ensure that all 12 spaces are utilized and out of respect for anyone on the waiting list, please only sign up for this outing if you’re reasonably certain you’ll be attending. If you sign up but later decide not to attend, then please remove yourself from this trip immediately.

On this moderately strenuous, 6.2 total mile up and back hike in beautiful Desolation Wilderness we will hike by quiet meadows, through red fir forests and across vast areas of open granite. We will eventually weave our way through 5 sparkling lakes, taking our lunch beside Island Lake. Because we will be crossing large areas of granite where there is no visible trail, making it easy to lose the trail, participants MUST BE IN GOOD SHAPE to be able to keep up with the group and not lag behind. (Leader makes fewer stops and hikes at a moderate pace.) There is not much shade along the way or at the lunch stop but the weather is typically beautiful and mild this late in the year. Rain or threat of inclement weather cancels.

    1,200 feet elevation gain.

Bring lunch, water, hiking boots, sunglasses, hat, mosquito repellant, sunscreen, jacket, bag for your dirty boots/shoes. No dogs.

See this link for important information about Sierra Club Outings

Meet at 7:15am at the Folsom Park n Ride

    Folsom Park & Ride:
Located north of Hwy 50 on the east side of Folsom Blvd.  From Hwy 50, take the Folsom Blvd exit north (toward the town of Folsom).  At the intersection of Folsom Blvd and Iron Point Rd. turn right, then immediately turn right again into the Park & Ride area (just below the Chili’s Bar and Grill restaurant).

We will be back to the park n ride by 5pm

If you have questions: email Christina at  [masked] or on the meetup site.

Christina, I live in Placerville and will meet you at the Twin Lakes trailhead. I assume that is where you will start. Please let me know what time you expect to arrive.

Hi everyone. Please be sure to read ALL of the write up. It is very important. Thanks!

Hi Beatrice, I do believe the write up says Folsom Park n Ride. :)

Actually, it still says "needs a location", so you might want to clarify it by saying Folsom Park n Ride below Chili's or people might park below McDonald's across the street, as most other meetups are held there.

Hi Diane. It's fairly common for leaders to leave that section blank if its included in the write up. Thanks!

Hi everyone! One week to go! PLEASE remove yourself from the RSVP list if you cannot make it. We are limited to 12 due to Wilderness permits so if you can't make it, be kind and free up a spot for someone else. Thanks!! :)

    Christina, isn't the location Folsom P&R ?

Hi all! Please RSVP no if you are not able to attend this hike. Because it is in Desolation Wilderness I can only have a permit for 12…there are many on the waiting list so be courteous! Also, I will be watching the smoke from the Yosemite Rim Fire to see if it is healthful enough to hike that day. :)
