Why are you interested in SVS?

Because since I was a teenager in the 1960's I've always eaten 100% organic, whole foods, plant based, nutrient dense diet. The carbon footprint of a plant based diet is much lower than the SAD diet - Standard American Diet. I am thrilled the Vegetarian Society has merged with The Grange! Back in the 1980's I worked in Washington, D.C. performing agrarian advocacy work on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. I worked for Family Farm Defense Fund - a pro bono legal defense fund financed by Farm Aid. The Grange was on our Board of Directors. I admire the Grange immensely since it dates back to the 19th century and was founded by farmers and ranchers being forced off their ancestral farms by corporate railroad thugs.

What can SVS do for you?

Fun, fellowship and community building. I am active in the Slow Food Sacramento movement. I would like to form a buying club with like minded folks who want to go direct and purchase organic food wholesale straight from the growers.

Tell us about yourself.

I am a long time community gardener. Certified in Permaculture and trained at the Ojai Foundation with Bill Mollison in 1979. Certified in Community Nutrition. B.A. Interdisciplinary Humanities A.A. degrees in Social Science, Liberal Arts and Recreation Administration. In 1983, I graduated from a professional culinary academy in San Francisco. I used to work as a Drop Out Prevention Specialist and Literacy Worker in low income schools. Taught mixed media sculpture at Hemisphere's Fine Arts Academy and worked with at risk youngsters at the Alkali Flats Boys and Girls Club. Taught Kid Fit Wellness classes to toddlers - 5th graders at the Midtown YMCA. Are you vegan, vegetarian, omnivore, or transitioning?

Vegan 23 yrs. In 1997 began eating small amounts pastured grass fed raw fermented organic dairy Raw dairy is LEGAL in Calif & and many other states, but govt frequently shuts down companies Hard to find raw dairy products. Love to form a buying club, herd share & know how to source raw, unpasturized, grass fed fermented dairy. My diet is definitely plant based and 100% organic. I only eat a small portion of raw dairy and organic pastured eggs as a condiment to season my food. Wild bees "swarm" and abandon their hive when it is 100% packed full of honey and pollen. Apiary beehive keeping does NOT harm bees, but gives endangered wild bees HABITAT. I don't eat ANY organic food frozen, canned or in box. I buy most of my organic food from farmers market and stick to bulk bins - I cook from scratch and avoid highly processed/refined/ industrialized "vegan junk food".

I had a fantastic time at the event. The very best dish, IMHO was the cashew gravy, raw pesto and those incredible raw muffins. I heard there is going to be an online recipie cookbook but I don't know where it is posted. The dishes I liked the most did not have ingredients listed at the table - the raw pesto and raw muffins. I hope somebody will post those recipies - they were excellent.
