SVS co-sponsored our first arts & crafts festival at the Grange Performing Arts Center (Grange PAC), at 3823 V Street, on Nov. 10, featuring open studios; eclectic artisan booths; and visual, performing, and spoken-word artists. The California State Grange–owned PAC houses: • the Green Valley Theater Company (http://greenvalleytheatre.com/), • Sac Prep Music Academy (http://sacprepmusic.com/), and • three studio artists (the Grange PAC artists). …… The Grange PAC artists, Jane Buckingham, Sister Sheba, and SVS member Mary Rodgers hosted a one-day gallery exhibit and invited other local artists to display, staff booths, and perform. …… Special thanks to Sac Prep Director Ben McClara for providing the sound system; SVS volunteers Ilsa Hess and Glenn Destatte; vegan food donors The Plum and the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op; all the talented vendors, artists and performers; and to the California State Grange staff for providing a superb venue and, along with the Grange PAC artists, many hours and lots of muscle to ready the space. …… In 2011, SVS became the only vegetarian-advocacy Grange in the country (and thus in the world). This festival is another example of how this collaboration helps SVS to partner with other community groups to fulfill its mission in creative and surprising ways.
