Sacramento WordPress Meetup - May 27th

  • May 27, 2010 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Our First Meetup for the Sacramento WordPress Meetup Group. Join us for some food, drinks, and fun. It's casual. No formal structure yet, just a bunch of bloggers, designers, and developers getting together to hang out. The idea is that group is focused on learning WordPress better and learning from each other. There should be networking related to WordPress, Blogging, Design, and Development, however this is not a networking or just purely social group per se. If you're looking to learn how to use WordPress or how to use it better then this is the right place for you. We'll plan some guest speakers and workshops going forward.

For the first meetup, it was awesome. my favorite tips of info were 1) be careful with too many plugins, 2) Before downloading a plugin, check the rating, compatibility, last time upgraded, and user feedback (forums posts); and 3) This meetup group is dedicated to "learning how to use WP better.

The Sacramento Wordpress Meetup was just fantastic. Great people and lots of excitement in the room. We did some brainstorming and planning to build a framework for the next few meetings. I look forward to sharing the knowledge in the room and building the Wordpress community. Well done, folks.

On the right track, but speaks in Greek to the entry level person. However, the effort is greatly appreciated and I'm sure it will shake down in the coming months and be a valuable resource for everyone who attends. Thanks Geoff.

Very eclectic group, yet all united in their enthusiasm for WordPress. Lots of creative energy...I loved it.

Geoff did a wonderful job organizing the initial meeting, attended by 30 people. He then polled attendees to see what was most in demand and came up with appropriate topics and meeting times. Very nice leadership!

This was a terrific first evening. I was able to ask our host Bill Meed a couple specific questions about how to customize my page. Must admit that I wasn't too sure precisely what he told me, but he assured that it was there and it was simple. A few minutes later he hooked my MacBook to an ethernet, I opened the page and - voila! - I'd don't it. In no time - literally - I had customized my page exactly how I wanted. Thanks Bill, Geoff and James. Look forward to next month's meet-up.

I'd just like to make sure there's some structure and also to make sure that less experienced users are targeted too, not *just* the Wordpress geeks ;-) Looking forward to the first meetup!!

I think a panel would be great! Locals discussing future issues of Wordpress

Suggestion for the first meetup agenda next week:

    30 Min. Open Networking food/drink
30 Min. Presentation/Discussion (either a panel discussion or video of Matt Mullenweg's State of the Word keynote at WordCamp SF)
15 Min. Topics/Organizing for Future Meetups
    15 Min. Networking/Wrapup

Thoughts? For the Presentation/Discussion portion would you all prefer a panel discussion or a video/presentation on a specific topic? If panel then would anyone like to sit on the panel.

We've been given approval to use The Art Institute of California - Sacramento for our first meetup. It should accommodate 100 in their space so we should have plenty of room.

    Mary,

The first space chosen for the May 27th meetup can only accommodate 20 comfortably. So that's the reason for the wait list. We're looking into larger space and should have something confirmed this week.

Hi Geoff, I'm 30 minutes out of Auburn, so Roseville (or closer) would be GREAT for me! Thanks again for even doing this meetup. I definitely could use the guidance.

Capsity does have wireless. You may bring a laptop if you like. We're still considering the format at this point.

    Hey everyone,

Capsity Offices in Midtown has offered up their space for our first Meetup. This should provide a central location for the first meetup allowing the majority of people to attend. We need a food/drink sponsor if anyone has ideas/suggestions. Or we may be able to pre-order and bring food in, with a cost.

Let us know what you think?

I am in downtown/midtown area and like SCC but am open to any location.

So far we have recommendations for Panera Bread, Capsity Offices, or possibly SCC. Should we take a poll?

    May 8, 2010

  • Chris J.

i'd be coming to the meeting via rancho cordova but am open to locations as long as i can get there in time!

    May 8, 2010

  • Aaron W.

Since I'm sure there'll be just as many Elk Grov-ians and Rosevill-ians. I definitely support a central location. I could look into getting a room at SCC on Monday if that seems central enough.

The Panera Breads have been working well for the Web Developers meetups.

My thought was to start in Downtown or Midtown Sacramento, but it's open at this point. Event the date was just a best guess. If some other day works better for the group then let's change it.

Can we get some votes / suggestions for locations? Are we aiming for downtown Sac?
