  • Simons Big Spring Hike - Sunday Pub Lunch + 7 Miles

Ladies and Gents Simon here, planning my annual BIG Spring woods camera hike to a fantastic pub - Sunday the 2nd of June 7 Mile cross country trails spring hike starting at Claygate Train Station in Surrey, with a fantastic Sunday lunch pub midway at The Star Inn Ashtead finishing at the famous White Hart Smoked Meats pub in Witley. Trails are good, but expect mud, so wear hiking boots, and bring your cameras! The glory of Surrey Spring green. Start Time meet 10.30am, Claygate Train Station Surrey (direct fast train from Waterloo or Clapham Junction, or Wimbledon easy) 6.5 hours total time out (4.5 hours walking 2 hours in pub) Finish time 4.30pm at Claygate Train Station Distance - its probably about 7 miles all in, with the pub stop in the middle of the hike. There is a contingency plan if the weather is truly awful (Star Inn Pub) but this is a best-endeavors-brave-and-forthright-all-weather-escapade. In other words, its going ahead no matter what. Please let me know who's in. Full hiking details below Cheers Simon [masked] = = = = = = = = = = = = = Starting point: Ruxley Towers, Ruxley Ridge, Claygate, KT10 0HA Claygate, Ashtead Common, Prince’s Coverts Distance: 7 miles easy walking Woodland, commons, nature reserve This is one of the most unexpected and unusual walks in Surrey. It takes you through a succession of beautiful woodland paths with very little to marthe enjoyment. Two things make it unique: In medieval times Claygate was a tiny village and the sugar-iced fairytale castle of Ruxley Towers built in the late 1800s. Hope to see you there!
