  • The Salem Zen Center sits jointly with the Unitarian Universalist Compassionate Mind Sangha, sharing Sensei Lee Ann Nail as our teacher.

    Please join us each Wednesday in Hanneman Hall (to the right as you enter) at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5090 Center Street NE, Salem, Oregon. Programs availalbe for both beginning and experienced meditators.

    ***All welcome to attend either or both sessions. Chairs, cushions and benches provided.

    There is no charge to attend. Donations welcome.

    Session 1   5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

    Quiet meditation in Zen style (there is a short "stretch break" midway through)

    BREAK - 6:30 - 7:00 Students may do one or both sessions

    Session 2   7:00 – 9:00

    7:00 - 7:25 - Sitting meditation

    7:25 – 7:35 - Walking Meditation

    7:35 – 8:00 - Sitting meditation (Private meetings w/ Sensei available at this time).

    8:00 – 9:00 - Silent tea, Chanting, Brief Dharma Talk &  Discussion

    9:00 - 9:10 - Washing bowls, cleaning and departure together

    ***Beginning instruction: Those attending for the first time please plan to join from 7-9 initially for beginning instruction,  provided free of charge each week. It is possible to then attend either session or both, as you prefer.

    Zazenkai: The 7-9 program is structured to offer a short weekly meeting with the teacher for the more serious/ long-term Zen student or others desiring such a meeting..
