- Celebrate, Coffee, Lunch & Learn!
Thank You Flash Mobbers! You were all fantastic last night and we all exceeded my expectations on several levels! A week sounds really nice to me, however I'd love to reminisce a bit and gather some feedback while it's still fresh in our minds (the following Saturday is Thanksgiving weekend). BYOLunch/Coffee or just stop for 15-20 minutes and say hello! If you cannot make it, please respond to the questions below and send them to [masked]. What did we learn? 1) What went well/what did you like/wins? a) Meetup site? b) Rehearsals? c) Communication? d) Location? e) Final rehearsal & set-up? f) The Flash Mob? g) Other wins? 2) What could be better/opportunities/improvement? a) Meetup site? b) Rehearsals? c) Communication? d) Location? e) Final rehearsal & set-up? f) The Flash Mob? g) Other suggestion? Thank you for your candid feedback as I value your observations and ideas! Without the different viewpoints that many of you shared (similar or opposite of mine), our final product would have been diminished and the work to get there, much more laborious and less fun! Best, Derek
- Our Flash Mob Event!
We will be dancing & singing inside! We are also planning on attaching balloons (Flash Mob style: subtly by "random passers-by" to the area used for outside dining during the summer. By the time the music starts at 5:00 pm, a glance outside should see 20-50 balloons or so. All are welcome to participate and eat afterwards or just eat, observe and snap your fingers to the beat like The Four Season! Please RSVP ASAP (so I can update our #s) if you would like to eat dinner. Cannella's usually operates with a light staff on Sundays and they want to be prepared.
- RSVP ASAP If You'd Like to Eat @ Cannella's! Must update/confirm our 20 by 11/5!
Text me [masked]) the # of people in your "eating party" (Please include your name [as it appears in Meetup] on your text message) or message me directly here. Thank you! Cannella's restaurant needs to know how much staff to have on duty, so please RSVP for this meeting if you plan on eating anything (appetizer, dinner, drinks, etc.)!
- Final Prep/Rehearsal for Our Flash Mob Event
11/12 Our final rehearsal at Cannella's today was awesome! The Balloon Flash Mob Thank you, Fred, for helping me get the helium tank and balloons. I have 90 balloons (green, yellow and purple) and 100 clips with ribbons already attached that allow us to seal the balloon quickly without tying a know. I have experiment and a piece of duck seems to be the easiest and quickest way to attach the ribbon to the patio area railing outside the restaurant as we randomly walk by and "Flash Mob" style, attach the balloons between about 4:50-5:00 pm. We will attach the clips during our rehearsal at Library Square, most likely in two bunches, one held by a person on one side of restaurant windows-out of sight, and one bunch on the other side. *** After Jhonathan arrives with his sister and one year-old niece (possibly others) ...Flash (BALLOON) Mobbers can grab a balloon with a ribbon attached, a piece of duck tape, press the duck tape firmly against the ribbon, walk past the restaurant windows, attach the ribbon to the railing with the piece of duck tape. Then keep walking past the windows and to the other bunch of balloons. Repeat the process walking back the other way. 10/30 We will rehearse outside in the Library Square area. The weather forecast is Mostly Sunny and 52 degrees. I changed to time to an hour earlier to match the one-hour earlier event time change to 5:00 pm.
- We are at Cannella's NOW-Final Rehearsal at the restaurant!
We have left Library Square and at Cannella's! If you think it's too late to join, it's not! Here's how you can help and have FUN: 1) Snap along 2) Sing along 3) Eat dinner and watch 4) Help us blow up and/or tie balloons to the outdoor eating area that can be seen through the window inside (FLASH MOB style as we walk back and forth, tie a few balloons to the railing and then repeat

- Learn & Begin Practicing the Dance!
10/21, 9:00 pm 1) I was not able to get power reserved at the SL Library amphitheater. Does anyone have any type of portable speakers (battery-operated, etc.) that they can bring on Sat 10/22? 2) I am going to make every effort to go early tomorrow (10:30 at the latest). If anyone would like to come early to catch up on what we've covered in practices thus far, contribute to enhancing the choreography, etc., please text me and let me know [masked]) so I know to look for you and we can communicate. 3) The choreography includes the following basic steps: the "Grapevine" (if you don't know what that is, don't worry, it's simple), the basic 4-count steps from "The Hustle," basic step back and forth from left to right and right to left with finger snapping. 4) We have a Bollywood dancer (cannot attend tomorrow), a Break Dancer (cannot attend tomorrow, and an additional Break Dancer (pending attendance tomorrow). With the small numbers of total participants and short prep time, the plan is to use basic, easy-to-learn and dance steps for the majority of the song. Then, based on interest, talent and practice time, we have "spotlight" sections for dancers and if others can/want to join in, we will build those sections in the typical Flash Mob fashion. If our participation numbers are lower, the restaurant space is not that big, so just a solo, duet or trio will look great and be awesome for the most important aspect of this event, to surprise, "warm" and "WOW" our audience and HAVE FUN!!! ******************************************************** We will meet briefly at a closest table available to the east exit and SL Roasting Comp store (just inside the east entrance to the SL Library Atrium). By about 11:15 am we will move outside to the amphitheater area (exit east and go to your right. You will see the amphitheater on your right) where we have an outlet where I can plug in my speakers so we can hear the music. If you cannot make it but would like and are able to participate in other rehearsals and the even on Nov 13, -please RSVP for- the Flash Mob Event scheduled and text me. -Thanks, Derek [masked]) [masked]
- Be familiar with Can't Take My Eyes Off... lyrics and bring your dancin' shoes!
10/14-4:45 pm: I have made some good progress on basic choreography for the intro/entrance and first verse of "I Can't Take My..." I am basing on the possibility of having only a handful of participants and including a simple way to add more people without causing any challenges. I am thinking a good and easily accessible prop would be a cane or long/standard umbrella. Please bring a cane/umbrella (or similar item) to the meeting/rehearsal tomorrow. If you have extra canes or umbrellas and you don't mind bringing them to share and help with the practice, that would be great! 10/14-10:00 am: Please send me your email if you would like me to email you the lyrics. I will paste them in the body of the email and attach a Word doc as well. 10/13: Please message me directly with specific questions as I get message notifications more easily than notifications of comments on meetings. I am still new at this and learning the Meetup platform system as quickly as I can. Thank you for your help and patience! 10/13: Anyone know a choreographer, dance instructor, Zumba instructor (or the like) that would like to help us? Please message me and invite them to the meeting on Saturday! *** These are dance versions with strong percussion and dance beats! Song: Can't Take My Eyes Off of You - Hermes House Band (4:06) Second Song: Todo Cambio (original by Camilo) Todo Cambio 4:41 La Organizacion Los Mejores de la Salsa 2008 Salsa y Tropical I think we can meet at Cannella's to help everyone get familiar with the location and the "stage." Then, I think we can move outside or even over to Library Square to be able to listen to the music, choreograph and dance. What do you think? *** I will continue to add to this throughout the week I corrected the lyrics for "I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" and posted over again in a discussion. If you would like me to email it to you, please let me know.
