Provo Nights - Lower, Cement steps

Hi Fly Fishers!

Since summer and long days are here, the plan is to have a meet-up on the lower Provo each Wednesday night, hopefully casting dry flies to rising fish.  Some of you just need practice casting and getting your drift right and I can help with that too.

The hatches have been happening sporadically but as we get solidly into July the PMDs should me more reliable.  The dry fly fishing is excellent during a PMD hatch.

Hopefully we won't have too many tubers on a weeknight!

Tough night but successful. Solid but sporadic hatches of PMDs and Caddis. Tubers were an issue driving fish to the banks and making them shy. Best action was after 9pm. Water was very high!

I'm a newbie to the deeper waters of the Provo River. Not sure how to fish them. I've usually fished shallow waters like North Fork of the American Fork River up past Tibble Creek Res. I need some advise and examples of how to get the flies where the fish expect them.

Hi Jeffery, looking forward to having you join us Wed. Hopefully, we will have a hatch (PMDs or Caddis) and will be able to fish dries. If not, a beadhead nymph will get you down - only 2-3 feet in most places with the current flows. Pheasant Tail, Prince, Copper John in size 16 or 14 will do the trick, then tie the money fly below it, a caddis pupa or emerger or PMD emerger.

I would come to a meet up on the middle but the lower has too many tubers or floaters or whatever you call them.
