Do you like to sing? Of course you do. Everyone does! Many prefer not to do it around other people, but there is a cure for that: this group! Singing is one of the greatest things that humans can do, alone and together—it inspires community, is a ton of fun, and can even heal parts of ourselves that we didn’t know needed some love.
The idea of this group, *hosted by local San Antonio music community project MusicaEntera, is to make singing accessible to anyone who wants to do it, through drop-in choirs singing in 3 part harmony at a pub, to exploring your voice with your eyes closed in your own happy voice bubble at a vocal meditation class. The idea is to get comfortable with our voices and join them together to have a great time, promote human connection, and get to know ourselves better as musicking humans. And all experiences are non-performance, judgement-free. So, if any of that sounds good to you, hit us up!
Open and enjoyable to anyone who wants to sing. Beginners, you’ll find something that eases you in and gets you excited about singing. Old timers, we’ll give you the tricky harmonies ;-) And we promise there will be ways of enjoying your voice that you’ve never experienced.
Right now, here's what's on the forecast of events coming up:
Y’all Sing!: a drop in choir premise, much like Choir! Choir! Choir! out of Toronto. If you haven’t heard of them, check out their version of Africa by Toto. It’s amazing! And they only rehearsed for 90 minutes before they made the video. Lots of fun, musically satisfying, and low commitment. We've already done 2 of these and they have been a huge success.
Vocal Meditation: exploring our relationship to ourselves through the voice and breath, based in traditional yoga and meditation practices.
Vocal Improvisation and Circle Singing Workshops: learning how to tap into the unique and organic music coming through us all the time and giving it a voice. Based on group improvisation techniques developed by Bobby McFerrin and Rhiannon.
Performance-Free Choir: getting together with the same group of folks consistently over the course of 8 weeks to do a little bit of everything--vocal technique development, circle singing, simple songs in 3-4 part harmony, and more--for the simple and profound enjoyment of joining voices together. A low-pressure, satisfying way to be in close music community on a regular basis.
Individual Sessions: for folks who are wanting to explore their voices via a combination of vocal technique and spiritual/therapeutic modalities.
Note that most of the events do have a cost, but there will be freebies and discounts along the way, so keep your eyes peeled.
Finally, feel free to message us or write here in the thread what kind of music you like to sing and perhaps we can accommodate if it's not already a part of the plan. Looking forward to meeting you soon!
