What we're about

We are a fit and energetic senior group of hikers. Our average speed is about 2 (more or less depending on trail conditions and weather) miles per hour. You must be physically fit to hike with us to keep up with the group. Hiking requires more energy, strength, and stamina than walking. If you are thinking about old people’s slow walks on paved and flat surfaces because we are seniors, I would not recommend to join this group because we are much more active than you think. Our objective is no different from younger hikers even though we are seniors. We are brisk hikers. Please do not join if you are simply a walker. Or you might want to try out by joining a Shorter Hike during free trial period.

There are two weekly hikes: Shorter Hike, about 3+ miles on smooth (entry trail) as well as rocky terrain with a moderate long slope, and Longer Hike, about 7 miles on a mixture of smooth (entry trail) and rough as well as rocky, and hilly terrain at Friedrich Park in San Antonio. We also occasionally hike at Eisenhower Park and McAllister Park. The longer hiking group ventures out from time to time to the Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera. Government Canyon State Natural Area, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, and Pedernales Falls State Park. We hope to explore additional places in the future. All our hikes take place on weekdays in order to avoid crowds. We enjoy hiking without dogs.

Please read each hiking description before you decide to join to determine your physical fitness level. If you’re not sure of your fitness level, consider starting out with the shorter hike and moving up to the longer one.

If you love nature and hiking on natural trails in wilderness, want to enjoy the company of avid hikers of 60+, and stay fit for years to come, this group is for you.

Friedrich Wilderness Park21395 Milsa Drive, San Antonio, TX 78256(210) 207-5320

We hike about 3+ miles in the lower parts of the park, and on upper trails. There are moderate gradual short ascents and descents, and a long gradual uphill with about 250 feet of elevation gain. We hike at brisk pace. A not fast and not slow hike is expected. Our average speed is about 2 miles per hour. Good hiking shoes/boots are suitable. Bring water (A MUST), and snacks if you like. If you need to contact the event host, please call Ikuko at[masked]. Water requirements for Shorter Hike during hot summer months: To avoid dehydration, the minimum water every hiker must carry and consume would be a half-liter while hiking. Please understand that we are seniors who are more susceptible to heat and dehydration, and we need to take precautions.

Longer Hike without feeling generation gap

Friedrich Wilderness Park21395 Milsa Drive, San Antonio, TX 78256(210) 207-5320

This hike is about 7 miles (maybe 5-6 miles on very hot summer days) on rugged and rocky trails, and there are hills up and down as well as flat terrain. Total combined elevation gains are about 900+ feet with challenging hills. We hike at brisk pace as always, and fast pace and slow pace are not expected. Our average speed is about 2 miles per hour. Hiking boots are suitable. Bring plenty of water (A MUST), and snacks if you like. If you need to contact the event host, please call Alicia at[masked]. This hike is limited to experienced and physically fit hikers only due to rough and rocky terrain, steep hills, elevation changes, and long distance. Overall the hike is challenging. If you are a first timer, please contact the Event Host or Organizer. Note: We are in the wilderness once we left the trail head. Water requirements for Longer Hike during hot summer months: To avoid dehydrations, every hiker must carry and consume 2 liters of water while hiking. Please understand that we are seniors who are more susceptible to heat and dehydration, and we need to take precautions.
