Please join and experience the beautiful remote natural area. You will not be disappointed.
This hike is on rugged and rocky trails with some challenging steep hills. We will reach above 1,800 feet. The view from the top of the mountains is gorgeous. Also we will hike up to at least two more mountain peaks (and probably more if participants want to try) 1,600+ feet elevation with awesome 360 degree views. We will also visit a pond for a change of scenery, and relax on natural flat rock benches. Our hike will be 700 - 1,000+ feet combined elevation gains on 6 - 8+ miles. We hike at brisk pace as always, and fast pace and slow pace are not expected. Hiking boots are suitable. Wear layered clothing. Long pants are preferred to avoid scratches on legs because yucca plants next to trails have sharp edges. Bring lunch and snacks, and plenty of water (A MUST).
We will meet at 9:30 am at the park headquarters, or for carpooling at 8:30 am in park and ride at the corner of highway 46 and I-10 East access road and I-10. Please post messages if you would like to carpool.
Admission fees: $6.00 without Texas state parks pass; $3.00 with Texas parklands passport for senior. If you don’t have a pass, you can obtain it there with a proof of birth date (65+) for senior, or annual pass. There is no gate to collect fees. Please pay your fee in the headquarters after you parked your car.
Note: I would like to mention that you are in the wilderness once you left the trail head.
