The San Diego R Users Group is ending the year with a new time, place and format! Our next meeting is December 10th at the Ansir Innovation Center.
In the morning, our speaker is Ray DiGiacomo, Jr., president of the Orange County R User Group. Ray will be giving a seminar on Predictive Analytics and PMML (details below). At noon we will have pizza and networking, followed by a "hackathon" in the afternoon - you are invited to bring your laptop, data and code for discussions with your fellow R enthusiasts.
The Business Intelligence (BI) industry is undergoing a paradigm shift toward predictive analytics as most firms now realize they cannot continue to compete on lagging indicators alone. The most cutting-edge corporations have "secretly" mined data for years and are now watching these technologies go mainstream to the masses. This sales-pitch-free seminar will provide the audience a general introduction to Predictive Analytics and will also offer an in-depth overview of PMML, an XML-like language which allows predictive models developed in R and Rattle to be deployed into production environments where they can then be integrated into Business Rules Engines and traditional BI technologies like Dashboards and Reports.
10:00 am to 10:45 am, Introduction to Predictive Analytics Seminar
10:45 am to 11:00 am, Q&A period and short break
11:00 am to 11:45 am, Introduction to PMML Seminar
11:45 am to Noon, Q&A period and short break
Noon to 5 PM, Hack-a-thon (free pizza provided!)
Ray DiGiacomo, Jr. is a Predictive Analytics specialist and the president of Lion Data Systems LLC, a Healthcare and Life Sciences analytics consulting firm headquartered in San Juan Capistrano, California. Unlike many Predictive Analytics consultants who come from hardcore "Statistics" backgrounds, Ray originally comes from the Business Intelligence industry and feels his roots in BI have provided him a unique, business-oriented perspective on his current field. Ray is also the President of the Orange County R User Group and a Board Member at The Data Warehousing Institute. Ray can be reached at [masked]
