(apologies to anyone who gets this message twice)
Our next meeting
is Thursday September 3rd at the Rubber Rose (3812 Ray Street) at 6:30 PM. Mara Altman will be coming (hehe) to do a short reading and then take part in the discussion of her book, "Thanks for Coming."
Here are a few discussion questions to start mulling over before the meeting, courtesy of Thomas:
Mara is described in her book as having compartmentalized her mind from her body. What effects would you say this has on her quest for an orgasm? Do you think a certain mental state needs to be reached before an orgasm is attainable?
Part of Mara's process for achieving orgasm included travelling far and wide and consulting with numerous experts. How does this methodology differ from accepted cultural standards for achieving an orgasm? Is there a "right" way to pursue orgasm?
How did or didn't body image play a role in the journey? What culturally-reinforced body image conceptions can be detrimental to female orgasm?
Do you think some level of self loathing or denial of self acceptance is involved in Mara?s problems with her journey?
What steps of Mara?s journey do you think helped her open up to her first orgasm?
See you Thursday!
