March 2018 Book Club: What divides us - Regionalism.
• What we'll do They say demography is destiny. True. But so is geography and the differences it incubates, even in a country as committed to a "melting pot" ethos as the United States. In past meet-ups we have explored many of the reasons behind our country's growing social and political conflicts, but we have neglected regional origins. They go way beyond Media-driven blue versus red ideological splits. So, for March here is a choice of two recent books on this topic. Please read one. I will add a few optional background readings that are more current shortly before our March 31st mtg. 1. American Nations: A History of the 11 Rival Regional Cultures of N. America. -- 380pp total, 2012 paperback. -- Library: City 0 of 4 copies available w/2 holds. County: 2 of 5 available w/1 hold. 2. The Big Sort. -- 310pp of text, 2009 PB. -- Library: City: 7 of 8 available. County: 1 of 2 available. DavidG • What to bring Mtg is outside on a patio. • Important to know

    Public Group

This group is for dedicated readers and knowledge seekers who want to learn more about the world we live in. Knowledge is, after all, power, and having facts and figures to back up arguments is never a bad thing. Ideally this group will meet once a month to discuss a book of the month. We can read both fiction and non-fiction, and the literature we read need not be political. The overall aim of the group will be to enrich ourselves with knowledge and get together to share this knowledge.
