SDMMF Air Rockets Activity on Space Day at the San Diego Air and Space Museum

The Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park has invited SDMMF to host an activity at this one-day celebration of space. Space Day features an appearance by astronaut Woody Spring, whose spacewalks helped prepare for the construction of the International Space Station. Hands-on activities include driving a Mars Rover, designing a space patch, and building and launching a paper rocket. SDMMF volunteers will be helping Museum visitors build - and launch - paper air rockets.

The Museum has asked SDMMF to for volunteers to help kids build air rockets and launch them. Please email me at [masked] if you can help.

We are looking for 6 volunteers for each of two shifts:

9:30-12 noon (setup 9:30-10 am, helping with building and launching 10-noon)

12 noon-3 pm (helping with building and launching noon-2 pm, takedown 2-3 pm)

If you can volunteer to help at the SDMMF table, please contact [masked]

Come and launch with us!

The kid were really excited to build and decorate their rockets. It was fun day.

Maybe a little better organization. The volunteers should be greeted at a table or something and given specific jobs to do.

Hi Margie, Some volunteers and myself got there and stood around waiting for someone to give us something to do. We didn't know anyone, who was in charge or where to go when we got there. The obvious place was the tented area by the launch area but no one there told us anything. I think a set area for volunteers to meet and get instructions would be great. Also since you had a good idea on how many volunteers were going to show, you could have made assignments already mapped out.

Thanks, Dave. Those are good suggestions that we'll use the next time we run this activity. I really appreciate your help with this event. Hope to see you in person at the next meetup at Central Library!
