What we're about

Orienteering is the "Thinking Sport". It involves decision making & map reading in addition to a great workout.

Orienteering is the sport of navigation with map and compass. It's easy to learn, yet always challenging. The object is to run or walk to a series of points shown on the map, choosing routes - both on and off trails - to find all the points and get back to the finish in the shortest amount of time. The points on the course are marked with orange/white flags called "controls".

Orienteering is enjoyed by a wide range of people - hikers, kids, mountaineers, runners, scouts, family groups - anyone interested in fitness, the outdoors, and mental and physical challenge. Every orienteering meet offers a choice of courses that vary in length and difficulty, from easy trail walks, to strenuous runs.

San Diego Orienteering (SDO) is a volunteer run organization.

SDO - Educates members and the general public about the sport of orienteering.

SDO - Educates and instructs in map reading and land navigation. SDO - Increases awareness and respect for the natural environment.

SDO - Stimulates participation in Orienteering through organized activities and events.

Wooded Hill Orienteering

Needs a location

Lets start orienteering again! Come on Saturday for some fun courses starting at the Wooded Hill Group Camp on Mount Laguna.

We'll have short, medium and long course options, starting at 10:00 am, last start at 1:00, course closed at 3:00.

We have the group camp reserved for this weekend, so for even more fun, stay and camp, we'll have a bonfire (pending fire restrictions)

The Forest Service has been doing a bunch of brush clearing and controlled burns in the Wooded Hill area, this means a bunch of the forest became more runnable, but now the map is out of date. We'll be accepting map corrections all weekend!
