What we're about

“Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood; aim for the chopping block.”- Annie Dillard, The Writing Life

This group is for writers of prose with a sincere desire to hone their craft. The focus is on literary writing, whether that for you is literary nonfiction, prose poetry, or fiction. Our goal, no matter the genre, is the same - to push ourselves to write our best, and to help each other through constructive and thoughtful criticism. Writers should be willing to hear criticism with an open mind.

This group will also use Facebook to share and comment on work between in person meetings. Members are encouraged join our associated group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/156770101543031/ (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/the-woodshed---san-diego-read-and-critique-group). There, in addition to sharing and commenting on writing, we can keep the conversation going by using the forum to share writing tips, talk about process, and discuss favorite authors. In person meetings will be a space to talk about our struggles with writing, offer advice, and of course workshop our writing in a supportive environment.
