  • The More I Paint, The Less I Know: New Works by Carlo Miranda

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC www.thumbprintgallery.com Preview Inquiries: [masked] About the artist: My full name is Carlo Guevarra Miranda. I am a Filipino-American, born on Clark Air Base in the Philippines. My father was in the military, during that time, I lived in the Philippines, up and down California, and Japan. I currently reside in San Marcos, CA in the county of San Diego. My earliest memory of art was learning how to draw a star as a kid. There was this girl in my neighborhood who was drawing a bunch of stars on a piece of paper. I thought they were pretty cool so I asked if she could teach me. She noticed I drew with my right hand and said, “No, no. You have to use this hand,” as she was left handed as well. And it just stuck. And that’s how I became left handed. Ever since I could remember, I was into art. I’d love to draw all the time. I lived in Japan for a bit when I was a kid so naturally I drew a lot of manga/anime. This helped with my sketching skills/line work. My teacher in the 3rd grade introduced me to a watercolor guest artist who gave me a lesson on painting. Any time there was an art contest in school, I was in it. I've won numerous awards as a child, the most notable being a $1000 art scholarship. Art has always been a part of me. At the age of 18, I was in a horrible car crash. My car was totaled. I came out with no injuries. However, my significant other at the time was not so lucky. She fractured her arm in 3 places. I was in a state of shock, guilt, and confusion. After rethinking my life, I decided to go into healthcare. While in the hospital, seeing how the nurses helped her, it inspiring me to go into nursing. For over a decade, I hung up my brush to put on a stethoscope. After persistent bugging from family and friends, I have decided to paint again. So thank you for being here with me on my journey. www.carlomiranda.com Live music by ANNA ZINOVA About Thumbprint Gallery Founded in 2009, Thumbprint Gallery curates monthly exhibitions featuring emerging, mid-career, and established artists with a focus on urban art and pop surrealism.
