The Falls Trail at the upper end of Donner Canyon is one of the most scenic parts of Mt. Diablo State Park, with panoramic views, rugged rock outcroppings, and cascading rivulets. While the distance (7–8 miles) and elevation gain for this hike are moderate, the Falls Trail is quite challenging: it has narrow, steep, slippery sections, and several stream crossings. Expect mud. Hiking boots and poles are strongly advised! Bring water, lunch, and rain gear for possible light rain. Steady rain cancels. Meet at the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center at 10:00 AM. Water and restrooms at the trailhead. State park rule prohibits dogs.
