Alameda is an architecturally and historically rich community with over 10,000 buildings constructed prior to 1930 including over 3000 Victorian-era homes as well as over 1000 historic buildings. Besides Victorian-era architecture, another era left its mark here-the Roaring 20s. This era allowed those were once not able to afford a house the opportunity to live the American Dream. Join us for a 1A, leisurely walking stroll through some of Alameda’s neighborhoods where we’ll stop and view many of these homes focusing on Bungalows in Tudor, Craftsman and Mediterranean styles and get to know a little more about the history of Alameda along the way.
Meet at Lincoln Park (at High St and Santa Clara St) by 11:30 for a picnic lunch followed by a prompt 12:30 departure. Upon our return join us at High St Café for a pre St. Patrick’s day Guinness, Irish Coffee or other libation. Bring lunch, liquids, sun protection and comfortable walking shoes. Sorry, pets will have to stay at home.
Note: This event will be limited to 15 people. Firm RSVPs only to hike leader. Rain cancels hike, contact hike leader if uncertain.
