Angel Island Potluck Picnic

Join us for a picnic and day of fun  on Angel Island. We'll be at the Platform group site across Ayala Cove from where the Ferry lets off between 10:30 and 4. In addition to the picnic, there'll be hikes and a bike ride offered. Team sports lovers are encouraged to bring equipment for volleyball, football, Frisbee.  Those who are less energetic might prefer a game of bocce ball, a tram ride around the Island, or a day of hanging out and socializing.

Approximate Schedule for the day:

10:15-11  Set-up   If you arrive on the first ferry, meet at 10:15 near where the Ferry lets off.  We hope you will help us carry things and get set up.

11-12  Socializing and sports

12:00  Lunch-- Bring a dish or drinks to share for Potluck picnic. Also, help us keep this event green by bringing your own plate, cup, and cutlery.

1 pm  Three outings are being offered after lunch.   Angie will be taking a group on a 5 mile somewhat hilly bike ride around the Island that sports exceptional views of the San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco and Oakland (weather permitting). Glenda will be leading a 5.5 mile hike up over and around the island.  (Hike Map). Paget will lead a visit to the Immigration museum.

3-4   Socializing and sports

4:00 Pack up and depart

Consider bringing:   a dish or drinks to share, a friend, your bike, equipment for any activity you might like to play (ie. Frisbee, volleyball, football, soccer, bocce ball), bathing suit and goggles (if you’re a polar bear), plenty of water and sunscreen if the day looks sunny…you get the idea

Is there a sign up sheet for what foods to bring?

    September 24, 2014

    • Paj V.

Thanks for asking, but we are just going to trust that the food works out and people bring a good variety. That said, if anyone wants to let us know what they're bringing, it might help others decide.

    Hi folks--
I spoke with Sea Trek, the kayak outfitters in Sausalito. If we could get a group of six or more people who would like to kayak to the picnic, they could put a trip together for us with a guide. It would be $85/person to do this, for the kayak rental and the guide. Please post here if interested, ideally before Wednesday so we can give them a heads up....I think the maximum group size for the kayaking is probably about 12-14.
    thanks, Nancy

How is the parking at Pier 41? If I go, I possibly drive there and leave my car to take the ferry.

    August 15, 2014

    • Paj V.

Peer 41 is at fisherman's wharf. The only parking there is in garages that are quite pricey. It is better to take public transportation there. Another option is to catch the 925 or 1110 ferry from ferry building. It is easy to take Bart, you need metro, or any number of buses there. Alternately parking is somewhat easier there.
