Bitcoin meetup at 20Mission

  • Dec 17, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

20Mission is located on the corner of 20th and Mission streets in San Francisco. It's 4 blocks from both the 24th St. BART and 16th St.

We meet downstairs in the empty office space. The address is 2415 Mission st. There is a parking lot located on the corner of Capp and 20th (one block away).

There will be two main speakers, followed by 1-minute lightning talks. To be a main speaker (~10 minutes), email [masked]. To give a lightning talk, sign up in person at the beginning of the meetup.

Drinks will be provided.

Talks for this month:

  • Stephen Sprinkle: Bitcoin Anonymity -- The Pivot Point of Adoption
Bitcoin Anonymity is one the most instrumental features to the success of Bitcoin, while also being one of the most contentious points for established institutions.  This presentation will cover how Bitcoin affords anonymity and the legality, tax implications, and overall practicality of maintaining that anonymity and whether or not it is a false choice between maintaining anonymity or gaining main stream adoption.  Included throughout the presentation will be services that afford and facilitate anonymity and how the above topics play themselves out in these services.
  • Adam Sah: Experiences Accepting Bitcoin at my Store
Buyer's Best Friend was the first grocery store in the world to accept Bitcoin. We custom programmed our POS to accept it, and got covered in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Wired and still get 1-3 BTC tickets per day in our SF retail stores in Haight-Ashbury, North Beach and the Ferry Building. This presentation will cover our experience-- the kinds of customers, what they buy, anonymity, etc.

Big thanks to our sponsors: 20 Mission and Coinbase.

See you all there!

Adam, our second speaker, shared this discount code with me: BTCFTW20. It gives you 20% off (!!!) if you pay with Bitcoin at Buyer's Best Friend.

Hey is anybody here knowledgeable about Ripple? I have an idea for an international bitcoin play, but my research always leads me back to ripple somehow. Care to discuss on Tuesday?

    Hello all,

My name is Alain Braux and I am one of the co-defendants in Brad's search for his lost bitcoins.

Two years ago, I bought a few hundred bitcoins from TradeHill. All of the sudden TradeHill went off the grid and despite assurances that our bitcoins would be returned, nothing has happened since.

I thought the issue was a lost cause when a few months ago I read a press release that Jered Kenna and Tradehill were back in business. Great! I thought, I can recoup my bitcoins now. Since then, I tried repeated emails to Jered and TradeHill, texts to Jered cell phone (he gave it to one of the forums I was on), Twitted and LinkedIn about it. To this day, NOTHING.

Brad and I are gathering a group of similar people and getting ready to file for a class action suit.

Jered and TradeHil, will you help us have a nice Christmas and do the right thing and everyone will be happier?

    Sincerely, Alain Braux

    Hi,

I am trying to recover the funds that were in my Tradehill account when the company closed. Sorry to use this message board in this manner but I am running out of options short of legal action.

I have been unable to reach Jered Kenna or a representative of Tradehill. Calls to their office, emails, and tweets have not been returned.

I am also in discussion with 3 more individuals trying to recover the funds from their Tradehill accounts so I do know I am not an isolated case.

Does anyone know if Jered Kenna or Tradehill are still involved with Bitcoin? Has Jered stolen the account balances and skipped the country? If anyone knows how to contact with Jered and/or Tradehill, please ask them to reach me here or to Tweet instructions to have account balances returned.

    Thank you Bitcoin community.

Hi Mark: Thank you for the help. I've emailed Ryan ... who is still listed as the Tradehill President & COO. If anyone sees Jered or Ryan tonight it would be awesome if they could mention my post.

MINERS ---> Would it make sense for us to setup our own San Francisco pool? I'm willing to spearhead if we have enough hashing power (100 TH). The larger pools available are charging for features we simply don't use. Most aren't mobile friendly, don't have API's etc. Solvable problem if we have the horse power. I have .6 TH now.
12 TH coming late Q1. Reply with your hashing power. Maybe we have enough. I'll be at the next meetup to discuss.

I think we discussed this idea at an earlier meetup, and I'm delighted you've taken the initiative to do it! I'm hashing at 21Ghs/sec average these days, which seems to get me 0.01/day. Thinking seriously about pre-ordering the promised March 2014 BabyJet to stay in the game, but looking at other opportunities right now. Would love to help build a local pool and learn more about the back end side of such an enterprise.

Also, it's a bummer that this meetup is only once a month. Has this been discussed before?

    December 13, 2013

I'll be at a Sharing Economy event down the street to support Andreas Antonopoulos who is giving a short talk to promote Bitcoin for the sharing economy... I hope we can make it to the social afterwards. I obviously don't want to take away from the success of this event, but if you're interested in meeting new faces and talking about bitcoin to new folks then it would be great to have you. http://www.meetup.com/sharing-economy/events/151027652/

I'm needing an Android developer to join a project I've been building for the past 4 months. This is a paying gig (market rate in BTC or USD) + equity for the right fit. Feel free to contact me at [masked]
