Piedmont: Staircases, Park, & History

Explore Piedmont's little known suite of "long stairs", featuring some nice views and a stroll through some of Piedmont's fine local neighborhoods. I will stop briefly a few times to provide some history and context.

The stairs were probably built for when residents were less car-dependent so they could access the famous East Bay key system dating from the 1950's and earlier. There are similar historic staircases dotting Berkeley, Kensington, and Oakland (see other stair step events).

For the comfort of local residents I will limit participation to 15 people.

We will conclude with a side tour of Piedmont Park, featuring more steps, lovely wooded paths, a creek, and more interesting Piedmont history. We will also finish near a convenience store with nice sandwiches, drinks, and fenton's ice cream.(Mulberry's (
