Noe Valley Vistas

ABOUT THE WALK

Our route will take us from the Mission District, through Noe Valley, and over to Billy Goat Hill then back again to the Mission. We will walk for 2 hours or 2.5 hours, depending on speed of the group. This itinerary has a lot of staircases, city views and picturesque streets. When climbing, we will pause for a half minute at the top before going on, but if tackling numerous staircases at an average speed is too strenuous for you, please sit this one out.

MEETING POINT/TIME

Our meeting and ending point is Muddy Waters Cafe on Valencia near 24th Street. This is one block from the 24th Street BART station and close to several MUNI lines. (CAREFUL: There is more than one Muddy's! This one is Valencia and 24th.) Meet at 12:00 noon in front of the cafe. WE TAKE OFF AT 12:15 SHARP.

NO BATHROOM STOPS

There are no pit stops during the walk. Come early and buy something from Muddy's if you need to use their restroom.

LIABILITY & SAFETY

You are responsible for your own safety. When you RSVP yes for any SF City Steps walk, you are confirming that you have read and agree to our Safety Tips and Waiver of Liability.

DOG FRIENDLY WALK

Dogs can join us for the walk, but they will have to be on leash and under good control. Please read and follow our Doggie Guest Rules.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Be sure to change your RSVP from yes to no at least 12 hours before the walk if you need to cancel. Late cancellations are marked the same as a no show and anyone with a history of flaking will be removed from the group. There are no warnings about that, so review our attendance policy to avoid unpleasant surprises.

I never believed that you could walk uphill coming and going, until today. :)

A wonderful walk with great views and varied architecture. A big thanks to Shella for leading the walk today!

Some of the Steppers expressed interest in how far we walked/climbed. According to the FitBit electronic pedometer I was wearing, we covered 4.9 miles, took 14,800 steps (paces, not stair steps) and climbed the equivalent of 100 flights of stairs! Oh, and we burned 2,278 calories.

wow! That is impressive. What is the pedometer that you use to measure that? I'm not much into gadgets, but I like anything that justifies the 1/2 pint of Ben & Jerry's I had tonight!

Someone asked about footwear for this walk. We will be almost entirely on sidewalks, staircases or very well-packed dirt paths. I do not expect loose gravel, but can't guarantee 100% that every path is exactly in the condition I last walked it. So, sneakers should be fine but if you are at all concerned, opt for your hiking shoes. Thanks!

Agh, feeling marginal & hate to give up my spot, but here goes...
Sure hope you run this one again!

This seems like a good idea to remind everyone to read the information under PAGES in the white bar that goes across the screen of our Meetup group site. You will find things like:

    >Frequently asked questions
    >Attendance policies
    >Guidelines for members

As always, thanks for you interest.

Also curious to know if I can follow along?

    November 8, 2013

    • Shella

FAQ #3) If a walk is full, can I just follow behind the group?
No. A limit is a limit. Members are expected to respect the decision of our guides and so shadowing a group is not only a bad idea, it is grounds for removal.
