Jericho on the road - Berkeley

  • Mar 21, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Jericho is on the move again!

We've always had requests from our agents in East Bay to come out of the fog and play on the other side of the bay, but until recently, no one ever took the extra steps to help plan something. For this months game, Eric Anderson helped me plan out the missions and I'm really eager to see how it is going to play out. So suit up for some Bezerkely spy action, and come out to play with us!

Also, you may have noticed that our weekend games (hosted by Ben) have banned battery operated and clip fed blasters. As of this moment, this rule is only in effect for weekend games. You are free to bring any Nerf dart firing gun (unmodified off the shelf) you can carry to this game.

Rules are here.

Nerf Gun and Hat are required to play, Tie-dye shirt & Birkenstocks optional

Food & drinks to follow (local agents will help us)

Distances were a bit long and difficult to navigate. Please add a compass rose to all future maps!

It was pretty good pastrami, at least...

Thanks everyone for coming out last night! It was a real honor to get to introduce the Jericho community to some new terrain and Berkeley flavored fun! I'm hoping to hold an East Bay game once every couple/few months to supplement the action in SF. If any East Bay players have ideas for games shoot me a private message. I'd like to have some co-conspirators to share the fun in developing and putting on future games. We must have some future games in downtown Berkeley (Campanile shootouts will become a mainstay, I'm sure!). But I'm also definitely looking for other venues that are close to BART and have a decent amount of non-players walking around.

I'm somewhat familiar with downtown Berkeley & the UCB campus, so I at least had an inkling of which direction to go. But for someone completely new to this venue, navigation is a bit more difficult than dt SF. As for distances covered, I didn't think they were any longer than SF missions. The hills, however, seemed more of a challenge. Not sure how that can be given SF streets.

To everyone who brought a +1 or +2, please encourage them to join the Jericho Meetup group so we can keep building the ranks of East Bay agents.

Jericho meetups are always awesome, but this one was even awesomer. Never thought that spying in Berkeley could be so different than SF! Props to Eric for planning some challenging missions. The nuclear materials theme, hazmat clamps, & lead-lined shopping bag (w/radiation symbol printed on it!) were small but very creative enhancements that added to the fun.

Thanks Greg! Glad you enjoyed the theme and flavor!

What a great way to expand the Jericho footprint! We landed in East Bay last night and had a ton of fun and met all kinds of great new players in the process! I have so many great memories of the night, like getting shot in the head by the girl I lent my gun to...twice, or Greg and I (the old guys) joking about someone on offense running us down and then being run down by someone on offense (the kid) and somehow barely coming out alive (dumb luck), and Stephen's epic courier ride for the win (which has changed my opinion of bike uselessness forever!)
All of these memories and more wouldn't be possible without the long hours of prep work by Eric Anderson, who mapped it all out, planted the dead drops, and added all the little details that made this a great game! Look for more games from him because Eric has agreed to be our newest organizer and will be putting together future games for all you east bay agents!

Woo! Well done, everyone :) Next time, I'm bringing a flashlight. And maybe a gun with glow-in-the-dark darts.

For those who haven't played Jericho before, can you clarify how we can tell who's in the game or not? Clearly stealth and spycraft are central, but what's to stop us from embarrassing encounters with bystanders, if only the courier has a wristband, and hats are worn only when dead?

    March 15, 2013

    • Eric A.

It's Berkeley. Getting shot with a Nerf blaster is the least offensive way you are likely to be accosted on the street!

      March 15, 2013

It's not embarrassing at all, it's part of the fun!

For any latecomers tonight. Mission #2 will be starting near the Holbrooke Building on the Pacific School of Religion campus (near Scenic Ave & Le Conte Ave) around 7:45pm. See you there!

I apologize if this is a tad off-topic, but I figure those who are interested in Berkeley/East Bay Nerf games would be very interested in this: an unprecedented arena http://www.bayareanerf.com/2013/03/bridges-rock-gym-nerf-league.html

Im visiting san francisco that week. Whats the best way to get to that area and what do we need to bring??

    March 10, 2013

    • Eric A.

There are four different entrances to the Downtown Berkeley BART station. Make sure you go up the one with the escalators and you'll be right where you need to be! If you're visiting from out of town and need to borrow a nerf blaster or two let me know. I have some to lend.

      March 10, 2013

    • Eric A.

Actually there are six entrances. :) but aim for the escalators and you'll be OK!
