Jericho On The Road: The Mission

Hey everyone. I feel like we've played enough games downtown to figure out a game format that seems to work well along with having an assorted mix of missions. Because of that, I think its time to take the weekend games on the road. So starting with the April weekend game going forward, we'll be visiting different neighborhoods in the city, possibly even at different times of the day. I'd really like for us to play in new areas, but give people an opportunity to see and visit areas they may not normally frequent. If you have any recommendations for areas or missions that aren't too complicated, I'm all ears.

With that said, we'll be playing starting our next game in Dolores Park by the stairs at 19th and Church(the West side past the bathrooms). We'll be making our way through parts of The Mission, The Castro and The Duboce Triangle and probably end with a post game meal at Ike's. Due to the feedback from the last game, the weekend weapons ban is still in effect. And I am aware that there are a few blasters on the market that fit within those guidelines but can store more than most sidearms and fire two darts or discs at a time(the Roughcut and Diatron). As a freebie to those who still want more firepower, I'll allow them as I still don't believe they offer much of an advantage now that the drop-off location isn't available to the defense.

Don't forget your hats and non battery operated or clip fed blasters and I'll see you all at the end of the month.

Awesome awesome game! I would just say the same thing I said after the Berkeley game: shorter distances fewer hills. Err on the side of fewer and use a hill or two for specific strategic reasons in a particular mission.

  • Sinclair Y.

Awesome overall. My ankles were sore from walking up and down the hills, but the experience was great regardless.

Hills are good for ya. I had a fun time as well.

Can we use the Cortex Vigilon? It's a disc shooter?

    April 27, 2013

    • Benjamin

Vortex blasters are fine as long as they aren't magazine loaded.

      April 27, 2013

    • Eric A.

Its not magazine so it should be ok. Its the disc version of the strongarm or maverick.

This will be the first game for my 8-year-old son Ben and I. We are gearing up (and a have a substantial arsenal). What are the gun restrictions?

    April 27, 2013

    • Benjamin

Hey, glad you could join. As for the weapon restrictions, I've banned battery operated and magazines/clip fed guns for the weekend games. Though I'm allowing clip fed guns on the condition that they're loaded manually and not with a clip. As for the shield, this game is more of a spy game so shields and melee weapons aren't allowed, as all foam contact will count as a kill for the enemy, whether it's on you or something on your person.

    Is this near a Bart?

    April 27, 2013

    • Benjamin

Dolores park is about a ten minute walk or so West from 16th and Mission bart.

      April 27, 2013

  • Drew H.

And my son wonders if we can bring a shield?

Something discussed during the weeknight game was if clip system guns could be used but without clips, as in having to not only prime every shot, but reload as well. I think I'm okay with this, because I think it doesn't offer much advantage over something like a Jolt or Triad besides range. And even then, the smallest clip system guns like the Retaliator aren't quite that pocketable. I'd be interested in hearing anyone else's thoughts before I go ahead and allow them.

@andrew Does it work? That sounds really interesting.

      April 25, 2013

    • Amber S.

It works for certain values of "work". Not quite as Lee Harvey Oswald as I'd like but I think it'll be ok with a bit of practice.

      April 26, 2013

  • Greg

Doesn't look like I'll be able to make it this time. :(

What happens if we come in a little late?

    April 26, 2013

    • Benjamin

The second mission will begin at 20th and Castro at about 2pm. From there we can fill you in on how the game works and get you on a team.

Ill tryto come, is it all right if my parent doesnt play?

    April 25, 2013

    • Benjamin

I'm assuming you're asking because your parent might be coming to supervise you. If that's the case they're not obligated to play, but I'm sure they'll enjoy it as we have players of all ages who come out to join us.
