People who enjoy or curious about kirtan are all welcome. Singers and musicians who help enhance kirtan experience are also welcome to post their events here. Kirtan to me is a collective sound meditation.
People who enjoy sufi and qawwali music are also welcome, please share the upcoming events in the discussion.
Join us for an uplifting evening of chanting bliss! Astrud Castillo is a San Francisco based Kirtan artist steeped in the practice of Bhakti Yoga. She is inspired by sacred sounds and loves to sing in the key of “WE”. She is honored to play with some amazing musicians who make up the caravan and share Kirtan, a call and response of mantras in sanskrit.
Bhakti Yoga is a practice that enlivens the spirit through music. Kirtan is a coming together of Spirits to awaken that state of bliss that is in us. Astrud invites you to experience the Yoga of Devotion and believes that Kirtan is a metaphor for how we are like the sun and how each and every one of us has the capacity to generate more light in the world one breath and one mantra at a time.
Kirtan has the ability to soothe nerves, and it directs our emotions toward a positive goal; Peace!
The act of communing within music and chant regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs is one of the most beautiful and uplifting aspects of experiencing Kirtan.
It is by repeating the sacred names that our hearts awaken and our barriers dissolve and through this process Kirtan enables us to experience wholeness and union, Yoga.
