Lets head up north and have some fun at Boggs Mountain! I have heard many positive reviews of the trails in the Boggs Mountain Demonstration Forest and what better way to check them out than with other riders! First and foremost, I have not ridden any of the trails but I will be doing some extensive intel on the best trails and routes before the ride date. If anyone has ridden the area, please feel free to suggest some routes if you are going to attend. I am classifying this ride as an experienced intermediate ride.

If for some reason there is heavy rains in the area, the ride will be cancelled since the trail does not drain very well.

The area consists of a network of trails that meander through the state forest. I am looking to piece together a 13 mile ride which will consist of the more popular sections including Creek, Grizzly, Rocky John's, and Jethro's. Many descriptions suggest that it is easy to get lost so here is a link to the park map. I suggest printing out a copy if you plan to attend.

In regard to directions, take Highway 29 north through the Napa Valley, past Calistoga to Middletown (about 18 miles north of Calistoga). Turn left (west) onto Highway 175. Once through the town of Cobb, keep an eye out for the STATE FIRE STATION sign. Turn right here onto Forestry Road. Drive down to the parking lot between the heliport on the right and the forest headquarters on the left. Here you will find an outhouse and the only water in the state forest.

Lets try and meet at 10:00am and wheels roll at 10:10am.

I'm setting a limit of 15 riders for this one again because I want to make sure we can keep the group together for the entire ride. We'll ride at a social pace, with no rider left behind.

In addition, I will be posting a ride at the Oat Hill Mine Road in Calistoga to do the following day. If interested, then this will be a great opportunity to just ride Boggs, either camp or get a hotel room with some fellow riders, and ride again the next day before heading home to the Bay on Sunday.

Hope to see you all out there!
