Full Moon ride in Marin Headlands

Hi everyone, I hope those of you with lights (or who can borrow some) can join us for this glorious full moon night ride on the evening of Tuesday, April 15!

We'll meet at the Velo Rouge Café (address below) and then ride through the Presidio on the Bay Area Ridge Trail to the Golden Gate Bridge, over the bridge and up Conzelman Drive, and then do a loop in the Marin Headlands consisting of Coastal Trail, Miwok, Old Springs, Marincello, Bobcat, back to the bridge on Bunker Road and back to SF across the bridge and through the Presidio. All these trails are legal.

The ride is roughly 25 miles total on a combination of paved roads, bike paths, fire roads, and a little bit of singletrack. None of the trail sections are highly technical, but it is not a beginner ride due to the lighting conditions.

We should get back to SF by around 9:30 p.m. but could be closer to 10 p.m.

Please bring a helmet and good lights (i.e. strong enough to light up the trail in front of you). We'll ride at a social pace with no rider left behind.

Here is a good resource for mountain bike lighting:

We are limiting the group size to 10 just because of the length of the ride and a desire to keep the group together from start to finish. Hope to see you for the full moon!

First time riders, please read and understand the group's responsibility and liability statement:

Absolutely epic. Seriously, best ride of the year so far and will be extremely hard to top. Mirza, hope you made it home safe and you'll come out for another ride soon. Danny and Anthony, great times at Q after the ride. Here's my Strava for those interested (I forgot to turn it on from roundabout trailhead until halfway up Miwok, hence the split gap): http://www.strava.com/athletes/1163267

Epic Epic Epic. Not sure how we will be able to time a ride like that again. Sun setting while riding across the bridge. Blood moon rising as we came up Miwok. Clear skies the whole time. So sick!

Sadly, I am stuck at work again and I am not going to make it out there tonight. Looks like perfect conditions. Hope you all have a great ride!

Hey guys, just bought my lights and just waiting for delivery. Is this ride open to first time night riders? I consider myself an advanced beginner.

Hey Will, I am sure Ryan will weigh in, too, but my two cents is: do a few practice laps at night around Mt. Sutro or some other trail to get the hang of it. And there is no technical singletrack on this Marin route, if that helps. Hope to see you on the trails.

Thanks Kent, I've always heard of great things about night riding. It's time I try it out. I should get my lights early next week, so I'll get to try it out in Lake Chabot. Along with the Endless Cycles crew. I'll have to bail on this one though. Since its on a school night and I am coming from Fremont. Have a great ride guys!
