The First Meetup and The Riak One Year Anniversary

This will be the first meeting of the Riak San Francisco Group, and we are kicking it off in a big way. The inaugural meeting will also serve to commemorate the One year anniversary of Riak being open sourced. Aside from great technical conversation and idea sharing, here is what we have planned:

  • A talk from Dr. Eric Brewer, Basho Board Member and Father of the CAP Theorem
  • A few words from the team at Mochi Media about their experiences running Riak in production
  • A talk from Basho's VP of Engineering, Andy Gross, on the state of Riak and the near term road map

This will be a huge event to both discuss Riak and meet with members of the development and technology community in the Bay Area. UPDATE: Since this is the first meetup, we decided to go all out. So, this event will be taking place in the Zappa Room at the 111 Minna Gallery. Appetizers and drinks (cash bar) will be served. See "Location" for full time and location details. Come join us (and please RSVP so we know how much food to order)!

Great. Very good possibilities to network. Beverages and food for free was more than expected.
Speakers were a little difficult to hear. Wouldn't have mind if Eric Brewers presentation would have been a little longer. Quite short event though, from 7 tp 9p.m. Another hour wouldn't have been a loss.

This Meetup was a transformational experience. I am a physician with little prior knowledge of the database world and after one night of listening and talking it is clear that Riak is the disruptor of this universe. To repeat my Tweet from last night: this was the professional equivalent of being at a swinger's S&M club; Riak is the edge - come to the edge if you dare!

The meet up was unbelievable. Such a fantastic group of really smart people came to the event. Basho Really appreciate Basho Board Member Eric Brewer giving a talk. Mark Phillips is the best community manager I have ever seen. Unreal. Great event. Thanks everyone for supporting Basho!!!

Good job of organizing the event and keeping the talks short and sweet. It was a little difficult to figure out which members in the crowd were Basho employees though.

Excellent presentation by Eric Brewer. You could sense the rarity of it, by how simple and ubiquitous the examples of CAP in data management were -- ATM's, airline booking, code repos -- plus detailed understanding about their analogs in business practices. One could gain more clarity about NoSQL in 45min listening to Dr Brewer, than by reading a dozen good texts on the subject. The Q&A was fantastic. Many thanks to Mochi Media.
