Mecha - A Search & Analytics System Built for Riak

Hi All,

We have a great presentation for this month and we'll be heading back to the awesome Formspring offices. The date and time for this one are February 23rd at 7PM. Please try to get there on time.

Here are the talk details...

Introducing Mecha

John Muellerleile, Engineer, Remixation

ShowYou is social video application that runs two Riak clusters in production. The first handles primary data storage and serves the majority of their operational requests. The second cluster uses a custom-built extension called "Mecha" to handle the search and analysis of over 1 billion pieces of semi-structured data.

In this talk ShowYou Engineer and Basho Alumnus John Muellerleile will share some details on ShowYou's Riak deployment with a focus on Mecha. A purpose-built add-on to Riak that takes advantage of Riak's pluggable storage model, Mecha enables ShowYou to extend Riak's Key/Value functionality and incorporate search and analytics.

If all this wasn't enough to get you to RSVP, John is also planning on releasing the Mecha code at the meetup!

As usual, Basho will be covering beer and pizza. Hope to see you there. Let me know if you have any questions.

Good place, good location, pizza and beer, and a presentation about very interesting technology == good time.

Talk required far too much domain knowledge in Mecha. Even a familiarity with Riak was not enough to be able to follow the talk. However, Basho did an excellent job organizing.
