The San Francisco Soccer Football League (SFSFL) humble beginnings started in 1902. A group of immigrants having crossed the Pacific and landing in San Francisco wanted to start-up a social club. Having created 8 clubs with names like: Pastimes, Barbarians, Hornets, Vampires, American Rifles, Independents, Albion Rovers and the Thistles FC, these clubs grew to form dynasty teams and build soccer history as chronicled in the local papers. As such, SFSFL players were known across the United States, the Olympics, CONCACAF and back home in the old land where their names were spoken proud in local pubs and the neighborhoods which they once played soccer. In time, SFSFL members had been honored in the US Soccer and CSAN Hall of Fame for contributing to the game in America.

During the 70’s thru the 90’s, SFSFL teams built a dynasty of clubs having won the prestigious US Lamar Open Cup on four occasions and were runner-up on 2 occasions - with the last club team making an historic run in the US Open Cup, having knocked out 3 MLS teams before losing the championship match only on shootouts.

The SFSFL became the league to help launch professional soccer in San Francisco and semi-professional teams in the bay area from the Golden Gate Gales to the San Jose Hawks, which later became known as the Clash and now known as the San Jose Earthquakes - where our members and current administrators once played.

Our members are today's leaders in the soccer community. SFSFL's headquarters is the Verdi Club - a social club. Teams and clubs play semi-professional soccer every Sunday and is committed to its roots and community in San Francisco - the hotbed for playing soccer and meeting soccer enthusiasts.

SFSFL continues to provide the highest level of men's semi-professional soccer in California since 1902.
