Startup Fundraising
Attorney Eric H. Milliken will provide a step-by-step guide for startup fundraising. He will discuss investor friendly corporate structures. He will discuss the differences between seed, angel and venture capital funding cycles. Mr. Milliken will provide advice on how to reach out to investor, what to say and how to get a meeting. Finally he will discuss investor due diligence and investor terms for all stages of startups.
Intellectual Property for Startups
Attorney Mark Koo will provide a overview of patents, and trademarks. In particular, he will outline the key steps needed to file a patent application for a startup. He will also go through the legal protections provided by having a patent and also discuss some of the key details which a startup will need to be aware of when dealing with patents such as when would be an ideal time to file a patent. Finally, there will be a discussion of strategies to increase the value of patents.

About the Speakers:
Eric Miliken is an attorney specializing in working with Silicon Valley startups. His clients include startups and emerging companies affiliated with accelerators such as Ycombinator, 500 Startups, Matter, Boost, Stain Tech Center, and others. Eric has guided clients through incorporation, angel funding, intellectual property transfers, series A funding, and mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Eric served as the senior vice president of Soltech Solar. He also headed the compliance department at Centurion Alliance. Mark Koo prepares and prosecutes patent applications in technology related patent law. Mark has held various engineering roles at software companies in Silicon Valley including early venture startups. Mark has been involved in Silicon Valley companies in technologies such as data warehousing, wireless software and hardware technologies, and internet technologies as well as software for voice communication technologies. Mark received his J.D. from University of Pacific, McGeorge School of law. He is licensed to practice law by the State of California and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
