Al Fresco Potluck at the Presidio - Shakespeare in the Park's "Macbeth"

Let's enjoy some creative al fresco dining for Shakespeare in the Park's production of Macbeth on Labor Day!

We will gather at 12:30 to picnic in style on the grass at the Presidio main post.  Please post the dish you will be preparing in the comment section of this page after you RSVP.

Our menu so far (but please check comments below for new additions or changes):

Bread and cheese - Michele

Layered bean dip and chips - Hilary

Fruit salad or melon slices (and maybe some homemade sauerkraut!) - Sandy

Whole grain salad (vegan) - Blaine

Curried roast chicken salad on greens - Felicia

Aram sandwiches, and a beverage - Lori

Egg salad sandwiches - Diane

Potato salad with olive oil and fresh herbs - Jessica

Lemon bars - Kai

Chocolate toffee brownies - Carol

Cookies - Kim

I will also provide plates, napkins, utensils, and cups.  Everyone please bring your own water.  You might want to bring low-backed lawn chairs, hats, sunscreen, and a warm jacket just in case the fog rolls in as well.

Group rules apply.  Also, collaborative menu planning and recipe sharing is part of the fun for this group, so we reserve the right to bump you from the guest list if you do not post your contribution to the potluck within a reasonable time, to make room for someone on the wait list who has suggested a yummy recipe.

Here is further info on the Shakespeare event if you need a map or directions:  http://www.sfshakes.org/park/  We should be easy to find - look for purple picnic blankets as close to front and center as possible - but just in case my cell phone is 415.309.4999.

Hello, I just joined the SFVS today and would like to come tomorrow to the pot luck. I can bring a veggie dip, or homemade raisin-walnut bran muffins or both! Is there still room left for me?

Hello Diane, welcome to the group and we would love to meet you at another event in the future, but this event today is already full so RSVP's are closed, and we have a wait list if anyone cancels. If an event is open, the system will give you an RSVP option on your computer screen.

Okay, thank you! I didn't know how to get on the waiting list. It looks like the sun has come through so you should have a great day.

We are definitely still on for our picnic today! Just got an email from one guest about possible rain showers forecast for today, and that is always a risk with outdoor events. But the odds are very low (15-20%) and with the same forecast yesterday it was a beautiful afternoon, so I am crossing my fingers. Can't hurt to bring a jacket just in case, but we will make the best of things!

Approximate timetable for those who are asking:

We meet at 12:30 - see event description for location and my cell
Potluck lunch served - approx 12:45 to 1:45
The play begins at 2:00, so we usually clean up and put most of the food away before it starts
Performance should be finished by about 3:45 or 4:00 at the latest

Looking forward to a great afternoon with you all!

Just making sure everyone understands that we will be sitting on grass, there are no tables or chairs. I will be there early to stake out plenty of good space with blankets, but you might want to bring something more to sit on in case the grass is damp. LOW backed beach chairs (below your shoulders) are fine, but high backs do block the view of people sitting behind us and the ushers will usually ask us to take them down when the show starts.

Will we eat before, during, or after the performance?

    August 29, 2013

  • Kim

"There will be no intermission during the performance. The play lasts only 100 minutes, so please keep your seats and enjoy every spell-binding minute."

I will be bringing homemade Whole Lemon Bars. These are very rich, sweet, tart, and have a slight bitter note similar to Seville Orange Marmalade, which is also made with the entire rind, pith and all. If I have the energy, I will also bring the Chinese peanut sauce noodles, but no promises.

Almost picnic time!! Everything on our menu looks absolutely scrumptious, thanks everyone! Just sent out the fourth and final request for those few we have not heard from to please respond and confirm by posting their dish by Weds Aug 26, after that we will assume they have forgotten us and start moving wait list people up. See you all soon!

I'll bring either a fruit salad or melon slices. Something fruit and whatever looks good at Sunday's market If the sauerkraut turns out I'll bring some of that. See you soon.
