SF Writer's Community Monthly Meetup

This month's meetup will be devoted to the topic of how to give and receive feedback for our writing projects. Every writer can benefit from sharing work with their peers in order to get feedback and critiques. However, many writers are too nervous to read their work in front of others, or don't know which comments to use and which to ignore, or don't know how to give feedback in a productive way, etc. This meetup will give helpful suggestions and provide an opportunity to share your own work with fellow group members.

Members are encouraged to bring copies of their own writing projects to read aloud during the meetup so that we can practice giving and receiving feedback in a helpful and encouraging environment. If you'd like to read your work, please limit the length to a piece that can be read in under 15 minutes. Also, please bring enough copies to share with other members.

We're trying out a new location, Notre Dame Plaza, for our meetup this month to see if it's more convenient for people. Located near Dolores Park, this facility is easily accessible from the 16th Street BART/MUNI station or via several bus lines. Here are the details:

Sunday, June 1,
2:00pm - 4:00pm
347 Dolores Street b/t 16th & 17th

Enter at the left rear of the building past the rose garden then come up to the large community room on the 2nd floor.

Looking forward to seeing you there and to reading your work!

I'll look into it, Mel, but I think that you're the only one who can change your Meetup communication settings. Sorry you haven't been getting messages!

Great meeting, thanks for the feedback (much better than just 'nice'). Enjoyed seeing you all and hearing your work.

Thank you for the positive and helpful feedback at my first reading at a writer's event. I have already improved my piece, "Don't Mock my Bird", as a result.

The space at Notre Dame Plaza has wonderful potential for readings and group events. A 30+ turnout on a sunny Sunday. Very positive.

I'm afraid I won't be able to make the trek up to SF from Santa Cruz after all. Darn! I wish I could be there.

Hi Mohamed. I'm German Swiss but took French for many years in school, spent a year at the University of Geneva. I'd love to have a look at your book.

I've only ever published poetry. Is it OK to bring a 'pome'?

    May 26, 2014

    • Philip D.

Absolutely. Both pomes and poems are more than welcome. :-)

Just bring your work and we'll make sure you have a chance to read. See you there!

At last a time to test out my flash fiction, and so close to where I live!
