Notice how my project has descended into chaos. I got the LCD contrast working though and that is my LED heartbeat. Lots of potentially iffy connections I may solder. That's the box it has to fit into. There is a lot to be said for prototyping with PCB's instead of point to point, but designing with PCB's has a lot of wait time.

Well, my LPCXpresso board died in the middle of the project. I found a reference design close to what I want to make on Embedded Artists. I also saw a cool JTAG solution on Olimex. I may order both. Update - actually, the I found out the board didn't die. The LCD sucks so much current it resets the Cortex M3. Seem strange that supposedly logic level inputs, not power, would overwhelm the uC. The LCD works fine with the Arduino, which has a lot more driving power.
