Let's Throw Away the Carrot and the Stick

It would be totally cool if all you had to do to get people to do what you wanted them to do was to reward the behavior you wanted and punish the behavior you didn't want.

Doesn't it suck that, actually, people resent the fact you're trying to coerce them and therefore do the exact opposite of what you want---despite your efforts with carrots and sticks---when you're not looking?

Here's the thing: we KNOW that a sticker chart is NOT going to get our spouses to pick their socks up off the floor. Why do we think it will work with our children???

This Wednesday evening, 7pm, Jt. Venture Church, 6581 Camden Ave, near Almaden Expwy in San Jose, the Parenting the Millennium Kids Series continues with "21st Century Discipline."

It's not just about parenting. It's about how you get anybody to do what you'd like them to do. It's about leadership.

Hope you can come! Pass the word around. We're going to be doing a lot of group problem-solving about specific issues, so it'll be great if we have a crowd.
