Under the Skin (2013) (Seriously...Don't Miss This)

Finally here... This is another one I've been waiting for, for months and months, and it's been receiving non-stop ridiculously awesome reviews at festivals (and early releases) by critics and film-goers alike.  Don't miss this...

'Under the Skin' (2013) (Trailer below)

"An alien in human form is on a journey through Scotland."

★★★★★ - The Guardian, The Telegraph, Time Out London, Little White Lies, Total Film,  Time Out New York, Daily Mail, Irish Times, Metro New York, The Times UK

"Sublime. A genuine revelation and one of the most original movies in years.  Under the Skin finds Glazer graduating to the level of mastery.  We may finally have an heir to Kubrick." - LA Weekly

"Pure Cinema. You're just hypnotized by the whole journey." - Alfonso Cuaron, director of Gravity, Children of Men

"This astonishing film will leave you at once entranced and terrified... Johansson is nothing short of iconic."  - Robbie Collin, The Telegraph

"It sinks into the bones, gradually, uneasily and is unlike anything Johansson has ever done." - The Wall Street Journal

"A Mind-melting masterpiece." - The Village Voice

"A genesis moment of sci-fi fable, of filmmaking and of performance." - Los Angeles Times

"A Tour de Force of sensual and sensory filmmaking." - Variety

"Visionary, Extraordinary, Unsettling.  A classic." - The dissolve

"A terrifying nebulous thing of beauty... A beguiling and beautiful nightmare." - Indiewire

"A blazingly brilliant piece of filmmaking." - The Playlist

"Lovely, lethal and out of this world." - The New York Times

"An amazement.  A film of beauty and shocking gravity." - Rolling Stone

I went separately to this film. I thought the film had some good parts, but both the screen writer and the director didn't know what story to tell. For myself, I thought it could have been a good film, if by inhabiting the body of and earthling the alien became human. That story would have the meaning that the soul is connected to the body and ultimately transformed by the body. It would not only make an interesting story, but would have a lot to say about the contemporary mind/body conversation. As it turned, it was a fusion of David Lynch's surrealist Eraserhead, and the Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

A nice article about the guy who played the facially disfigured victim. He has the syndrome in real life also

    Info for Time and Parking:

The group will be meeting in the lobby at 6:55pm and heading into the theater at 7:00pm. The movie starts at 7:15pm. If you don't make it to the lobby by 7:00pm, no problem...just look for the group in the theater or feel free to sit on your own.

There's 3 hours of free parking underneath the theater (which can be accessed from 5th Ave or from the off-ramp from the 163 South to University). need to make sure you get your ticket validated at the box office to get those 3 free hours. You can also get additional hours of validation at some restaurants afterward...but not all.
