The Double (2014) (Jesse Eisenberg) (Directed by Richard Ayoade)

Our second "doppelgänger" film in the last 2 months…this has had great reviews and I've been waiting for it to hit theaters...

'The Double' (2014) (Trailer below)

Based on the novella 'The Double' by Fyodor Dostoyevsky about a man who's driven nearly to breakdown after finding out his life has been usurped by a doppelgänger...

"Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simons exact physical double and his opposite - confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simons horror, James slowly starts taking over his life."

Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Sally Hawkins and Chris O'Dowd

Directed by: Richard Ayoade - Acclaimed director of 'Submarine' (2010), star of sitcoms 'Garth Marenghi's Darkplace' and 'The IT Crowd' and supporting actor in sitcoms 'The Mighty Boosh', 'Nathan Barley' and 'Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy'

Creator of this Event: Robb

I agree on both of your thoughts. I had reviewed it on Letterboxd.com as "suffocatingly brilliant".

I actually liked the setting too: the peculiar, anachronistic technology; the suppressed, claustrophobic interiors.

Great movie pick, Robb. It's the kind of movie I'll be thinking about for days after seeing it. The movie setting reminded me a lot of Gilliam's Brazil. That, and the main character's obsession with a blonde :)

Hope everyone's had a great week so far!

    Info for Time and Parking:

    ~Time~
The group will be meeting in the lobby at 9:30pm and heading into the theater at 9:35pm. The movie starts at 9:45pm. If you don't make it to the lobby by 9:35pm, no problem...just look for the group in the theater or feel free to sit on your own.

    ~Parking~
There's 3 hours of free parking underneath the theater (which can be accessed from 5th Ave or from the off-ramp from the 163 South onto University). However...you need to make sure you get your ticket validated at the box office to get those 3 free hours. You can also get additional hours of validation at some restaurants afterward...but not all.

    See everyone tonight!
