New Meetup: New Year's Eve at the Yokohama Friendship Bell

From: David H.
Sent on: Thursday, December 30, 2010 5:54 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for San Diego Japanese Language & Culture Group!

What: New Year's Eve at the Yokohama Friendship Bell

When: Friday, December 31,[masked]:30 PM

Where: The Friendship Bell @ Shelter Island
1401 Shelter Island Drive
San Diego, CA 92106

JAPANESE STYLE NEW YEAR'S! (Well, sort of.) Come out for the Year-End Bell Ringing (Joya No Kane) at the Yokohama Friendship Bell at Shelter Island.

Get in line to "take a swing" at the bell yourself or just watch and enjoy a very Japanese way of ending 2010.

Hosted by the Buddhist Temple of San Diego and open to the public, the service begins at 11:30pm. The bell ringing service is not at the temple but rather at Shelter Island waterfront and palm trees. (Check Google Images for a look at the Friendship Bell.) Get there by car or bicycle and dress warmly!
