Announcing a new Meetup for San Diego Japanese Language & Culture Group!

What: Movie Night - Accuracy of Death
When: Saturday, January 24,[masked]:00 PM

Join us! We're bringing Japanese movies (with English subtitles) to our hangout at Broadway Coffee!

8:00 - 9:30: Meetup, hang out, and chat
9:30: Movie starts

For this movie night, we are showing:

Sweet Rain: Accuracy of Death

The story is about an angel of death who visits people a week before their impending death and determines whether they are actually meant to die. The movie offers an interesting perspective on the value of life and how to live fully, with a tone that is set by a mix of humorous, touching, and bitter-sweet moments.

One of the most entertaining ways to appreciate Japanese culture is through its cinema. In America, this is usually confined to two or three people huddled around a DVD player or computer. Instead, we'd like to share and enjoy this experience with a room full of Japanese enthusiasts.

Our setup is enviable. Our host at Broadway Coffee has offered us the use of his whole cafe after it closes, as well as his powerful, world-class sound system, which we'll then be hooking up to our projector. In other words, we can actually enjoy these movies as they were meant to be seen - on a big screen, with audio that fills up the whole room. :)

Finally, the movie starts at 9:30, but we'll start gathering early, for those who want to have a chance to catch up and talk. There's no strict requirement to come at 8 - please show up as you'd like, just as long as you get there before the movie starts.

We look forward to seeing you there!

P.S. This will likely become a somewhat monthly event. If you can't join us this time, please keep an eye out for our next movie night.

P.P.S. This will be our first movie night ever, and while we've already tested all the equipment once, please be prepared for any unforeseen technical problems we may run into. Thanks for your understanding!
